John David Magaha Sr. 72, of Welty Road, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Nov. 26, 1939, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Dallas and Marguerite Eleanor (Mackereth) Magaha.
He was employed by the U.S. Social Security Administration in Baltimore for 35 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a life member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club of Smithsburg, Md., and North American Rod and Gun Club of Hagerstown, Md., and a member of Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Goodwill Athletic Club of Hagerstown, Past Sachem’s Association of Maryland, The Degree of Pocahontas of Williamsport, Md., Raven’s Roost 7 of Hagerstown, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Loyal Order of Moose, and Improved order of Redmen Tribe 108 of Baltimore and Tribe 84 of Williamsport for more than 50 years, holding a national office as the Great Incohonee.
He was Catholic by faith.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wanda K. (Lewis) Magaha, whom he married April 22, 1976; daughter, Carol Ann Robinson and husband, Dennis, daughter, Margaret Dreyer and husband, Craig; son, John David Magaha Jr. and wife, Karen; daughter, Cheryl Rosenberry and husband, Jody; son, Thomas Magaha and companion, Ellen Palmer; daughter, Jodi Line and husband, Douglas Jewell; son, Shaun Magaha and fiancee, Fancy Ireland; sister, Carol Ann Smith and husband, Buck; brother, Charles Magaha and wife, Sherrie; cousin, Jean Hite; longtime friend, Mike Wojo; 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Garfield United Methodist Church, 13628 Stottlemyer Road, Smithsburg, Md., with Pastors Randy Reid and Jennifer Kokoski officiating. Burial will be at Garfield United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with a Redmen tribal service given at 7 p.m.
