John Joseph Martin, born Feb. 1, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 47 years, Rosemary.
John is survived by his present wife, Jean Hammett-Martin; nine children, John (Kathy), Richard (Susan), Cathy (Rick), Barbara (Paul), Michael (Laura), Mary (Dave), Susan (Steve), Brian (Darlene) and Kelly (Ron); 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
John graduated from high school in Brooklyn in 1946. He was an Army veteran and retired as a Washington, D.C., police officer and was a member of the D.C. Retired Police Officers Association since 1952. After his retirement, he moved on to real estate and became a Florida resident before returning to the Washington, D.C., metro area.
His interests included traveling, wood carving, golfing, water sports, camping, farming and spending time with his family.
A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Homewood at Crumland Farms Chapel, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, Md. A private family burial will follow.
