Joseph B. Spillman, 88, of 19645 Spring Creek Road in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at his home.
Born Feb. 5, 1924, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Harriett and Albert Spillman.
He graduated from Forest Park High School in Baltimore, and later from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was employed by American Cyanamid, Esso Chemical and Central Chemical Co.
He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Rotary Club and Fountain Head Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bernice B. Spillman; daughter, Margaret S. Lepsig of Matthews, N.C.; sons, Joseph B. Spillman Jr. of Ellicott City, Md., and Barry A. Spillman and wife, Jan, of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Amy, Kelly, Christy, Greg and Katie, and great-grandchildren, Austin, Noah and Aidan.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Spillman Hogan; and a sister, Charna Seifert.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Martin Nocchi as celebrant. Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
