Joseph Leon Hovermale, 71, of Clear Spring, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center, with his loving and devoted wife at his side.
Joe was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Big Pool, Md., to the late Dorothy Pauline Kline Hovermale and Charles Russell Hovermale.
He was a 1959 graduate of Clear Spring High School.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Big Pool, a charter member of the Fort Frederick Ruritan Club and the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring.
Joe was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 41 1/2 years, retiring in 2006.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Clara “Made” Potter Hovermale of Clear Spring; sisters, Ruby Pyles and husband, Robert, of Myersville, and Mary Ellen Clopper and husband, Michael, of Hagerstown; a brother, Terry R. Hovermale and wife, Sandy, of Hagerstown; four nephews, Rodney Pyles, Jerry Pyles, T.R. Hovermale and Scott Hovermale; and his loving canine companions, Jack, Oreo and Bo.
Services will be Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert Stone and the Rev. Dean Metcalfe will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown with military honors by Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon Wednesday.
