June E. (Lowery) Harris, 53, of Boonsboro, Md., loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 31, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at her home, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born Feb. 20, 1959, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of Shirley (Wagner) Lowery of Rohrersville, Md., and the late William Lowery.
She was a 1977 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1979 graduate of Hagerstown Junior College, where she received her associate degree in nursing.
Upon graduation from nursing school, June began her nursing career at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Md., where she worked as a registered nurse for more than 30 years. Most recently, June was appointed as a nursing supervisor for Shady Grove Hospital, overseeing the daily monitoring and procedures of other nurses. She took great pride in being a nurse and loved to help others in their time of need. She will be fondly remembered by her family as the one to come to when anyone had questions or was seeking medical advice.
She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters of Keedysville, along with her grandmother, mother and sister.
June is survived by her loving husband, Kevin L. Harris, whom she married Aug. 18, 1979; a daughter, Sarah Harris of Boonsboro; a son, Joshua Harris at home; a sister, Julie Smith of Laurel, Md.; and two brothers, Wayne Lowery and his wife, Dawn, of Boonsboro, and Keith Lowery and his wife, Sue, of Rohrersville.
The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 53 N. Main St., Keedysville. The Rev. Eric R. Moser will officiate. The family will receive friends for a fellowship meal immediately following the service in the church social room.
