Katherine Cushwa Miller, 93, of Williamsport, Md., died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at her home in Williamsport. She was attended by her daughters, Sharon Shank and Betty Hall, in her final years in her home.
Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth “Doc” Miller, who died Dec. 27, 1995.
Born March 29, 1918, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Charles David Catrow and Nellie Susan Cushwa-Catrow.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David Catrow; and a sister, Elsie Catrow.
She was employed by Interwoven Mill in Martinsburg for 10 years before starting a family. She was proud to contribute to the war effort by making socks for our military during World War II.
She was a member of Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in her early years, a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport and a charter member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport. She was a very active member of St. Andrew, attending to preparing and serving meals during various church functions, participating in various volunteer activities such as Helping Hands and Food Bank of Washington County, and was an active member of Friday Club into her later years.
Katherine is survived by two daughters, Betty Hall of Seymour, Tenn., and Sharon Shank and husband, Stephen Shank, of Cross Junction, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Bailey of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; three sisters-in-law, Waunita Dellinger of Hagerstown, Md., Wanda Maske and husband, Russel Maske, of Hyattsville, Md., and Barbara Catrow of Martinsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be provided by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. To honor Katherine’s wishes, there will be a graveside service only Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Martinsburg. The Rev. Mark Sandell will preside.
