Larry D. Kendall, 76, of East Water Street, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born July 8, 1936 in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Howard R. Kendall Sr. and Charlotte C. (Yowler) Kendall.
He was a graduate of Smithsburg High School, class of 1954.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He retired from C.R. Semler Inc. of Smithsburg, after 43 years of service.
He was a former member of the Smithsburg zoning and planning committee.
He was a Lionel train enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, G. Joyce (Saunders) Kendall, whom he married Jan. 17, 1959; one daughter, Barbara J. Kendall of Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, Larry D. Kendall II and wife, Karan, of Smithsburg; one sister, Betty Eckstine of Smithsburg; two brothers, Howard Kendall Jr., of Bel Air, Md., and Reginald Kendall of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Shaun Kendle and wife, Kelly, of Hagerstown, Kristopher Riffle of Waynesboro, Keri Riffle of Hagerstown, Lauran Kendall of Smithsburg and Jason Kendall of Smithsburg; four great- grandchildren, Riley, Austan, Nicholas and Evan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Gloria Jones; and one brother, Phillip Eugene Kendall.
There will be no viewing.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
