Laurence James "Larry" Higdon, 79, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 4, 1933, in Washington, D.C., to the late Laurence Samuel and Cora Viola Crowl Higdon.
He was a graduate of Bladensburg High School in Prince George's County.
He was a stationary engineer with the State of Maryland and was employed at the Potomac Center Hagerstown, upon his retirement.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple Hagerstown. His home was always open to visiting missionaries.
His passion in life was his family and teaching his grandchildren from his life experiences.
Survivors include, his wife, Nancy May Parrott Higdon, married Aug. 27, 1955 of Hagerstown; daughter, Dorothy L. Selders of Thurmont, Md.; son, Larry A. Higdon and his wife, Becky, of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Elizabeth Higdon, Kathryn Higdon, Rachael Higdon and Brianne Selders, Dan Selders, Heidi Selders, and Anna Selders.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Rocky Gap State Veteran's Cemetery, Flintstone, Md., on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor J. Curtis King officiating.
A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Temple on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 2:30 p.m.
