Margaret Lavinia Lewis, 94, of 20009 Rosebank Way, and formerly of 1045 Jefferson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Born Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1917 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Lester Snyder and Bertha Grace (Shamberger) Snyder.
A graduate of Hagerstown High School Class of 1936, Margaret graduated from the Baltimore School of Cosmetology, and became owner and operator of Margaret L. Lewis Beauty Salon on Cannon Avenue in Hagerstown for many years. She was a life member of Otterbein United Methodist Church on Franklin Street in Hagerstown. Margaret loved sewing, traveling and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles Samuel Lewis; and a daughter, Linda Ann Lewis.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura E. (Lewis) Shindle and husband, Edward, of Greencastle, Pa.; grandson, Jason E. Shindle and friend, Jennifer Johnson, of McConnellsburg, Pa.; granddaughter, Jana N. Egolf and husband, Ralph III, of Mercersburg, Pa.; great-grandsons, Blake N., Cole J., and Sawyer E.; sister, Judith L. Alloway and husband, Earl, of Greencastle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Stephen D. Robison officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, April 9, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
