Maurice Earl Snyder, 98, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.
Born March 4, 1914, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Isaac C. and Maude E. Renner Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Pauline Cooper Snyder, in 1992.
He was a graduate of Williamsport High School.
He was employed by W.D. Byron as vice president of sales for 47 years until his retirement.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
He was past commander and a charter member of Potomac American Legion Post 202 of Williamsport, and Last Man's Club with the American Legion. He was a Mason with the Wayne Lodge in Goldsboro, N.C.; life member of Williamsport Volunteer Fire and EMS; and charter member of Williamsport Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was member of Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 of Williamsport, and charter member of Conococheague Little League.
He was considered the Williamsport town historian, and was referred to by most as Mr. Williamsport.
He is survived by daughter, Kathy C. Snyder of Alexandria, Va.; son, M. Byron Snyder of Lake Worth, Fla.; son, Jack C. Snyder of Williamsport; grandchildren, Stephanie, Mary Jane, Jackie, Renee and Mark; great-grandchildren, Scotty, Samantha, Salomeh, Casey, Luke, Nadine and Ryan; and special friends and caretakers, Carol and Brian Mongan of Mercersburg, Pa., and Al Shane of Williamsport.
He was preceded in death by six brothers.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 29, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport.
A memorial service will be Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport, with the Rev. W. Gregory Martin officiating. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
