Mr. Donald Keith Merchant, 90, of Dallas, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012.
Born in Uvilla, W.Va., Mr. Merchant was the chief of restoration for the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
During a long work career, he worked at Fairchild Industries and for Airpax, where he held several patents.
He was the owner of Data Merchant in Cambridge, Md., and was a computer instructor at Dorchester Community College, and owner and publisher of the Antique Aircraft Gazette special interest newspaper.
His hobbies included oil painting, baking and being politically active in Dorchester County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Talbert Merchant; and oldest son, J. Keith Merchant.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Pike of Dallas, Donna Anderson of Boonsboro, Md., and Robin Spickler of Hagerstown, Md.; one son, David M. Merchant of Boonsboro; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or www.alz.org.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Ga., with the Rev. Joe Mauthe officiating. Friends and family may visit from 1 to 2 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in Hagerstown in April.
