Raymond H. Showe Jr., 70, of Martinsburg, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2013.
Ray was born April 8, 1942, in Hagerstown, Md., to the late Raymond Hilary Showe Sr. and Helen Elizabeth Showe Griffith.
He had an outstanding 20-year career in the U.S. Navy as a communications system technical control operator. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for a year with Pinkerton before beginning a 10-year career with FEMA.
Ray relaxed during his retirement years, spending time with his family and friends watching football, playing shuffle bowl and going out to dinner. He loved watching old Westerns and World War II documentaries. Ray’s favorite holiday was Halloween, where he enjoyed dressing up in costume, displaying “spooky” toys and handing out candy to local children. Ray was an animal lover who was known for giving them “treats” off his plate.
Ray is survived by his sister, Connie Paulsgrove and husband, Ernest, of Smithsburg, Md., and his cousin, Donnie Scadden and wife, Clara, of Sharpsburg, Md., who took care of Ray in their home for several years.
Per Ray’s wishes, he will be cremated, with his ashes scattered over the Red Sea with full military honors.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
