Mr. Robert Delain Campbell, 72, of Horntown, Va., died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Peninsula Hospital in Salisbury, Md.
Born Dec. 31, 1938, in Landisburg, Pa., he was the son of Virginia Campbell McMasters of Eustis, Fla., and the late Elmer Stiles Campbell.
He was the husband of Doris Beall Campbell, his wife of 33 years.
Mr. Campbell served with the National Guard.
He was employed as a painter for many years, then for 17 years by Conservit of Hagerstown and five years by the American Legion Post of Boonsboro, where he was a member.
Known as a hard worker, he enjoyed collecting and recycling; flower and vegetable gardening; spending time with his dog, Button, and with people; socializing; and playing scratch lottery.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Pam Hartman and husband, Bill, of Big Mount, Pa.; seven sons, Robert Campbell of Sharpsburg, Jeffrey Campbell and wife, Wendy, of Kearneysville, W.Va., Timothy Campbell of Brownsville, Donald Campbell of Boonsboro, Charles Keeney and wife, Kathy, of Falling Waters, W.Va., Wayne Keeney and wife, Bonny, of Fairfield, Pa., and Doug Keeney and wife, Sharon, of Horntown; two sisters, Patsy McAfee of Keedysville and Carol Auxies of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; four brothers, Thomas, Frank and Terry Campbell, all of Hagerstown, and Kenny Campbell of Eustis; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Keeney.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, Md., with Pastor James Bussard officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
