Rodger Dennis Rhodes, 82, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born May 22, 1930 in Hanover, Pa., he was the son of the late Donald Hartman and Elsie Marie Rhodes.

He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, class of 1948.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Mendoro CVE 120 from 1950 to 1954.

He worked for Frederick Trading Co., Tri-State Welding of Frederick, Md., Dressel Welding and Supplies of Hagerstown, and M&G Industries on Memorial Boulevard in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the council, was an usher, and drove the church van.

He was a member of BPO Elks 378 of Hagerstown, AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown, Disabled American Veterans, and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Dorothy L. Rhodes; three daughters, Lori Shillingburg of Hagerstown, Pamela Rhodes of Nashville, Tenn., and Susan Harris and husband, Shawn, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; one sister, Beverly Rhodes of York, Pa.; two brothers, James Rhodes and wife, Elsie, of Hagerstown, and David Rhodes and wife, Sandy, of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Tyler Shillingburg and Seyth Kretzer, both of Hagerstown, and Dalton and Taylor Crum of Nashville; stepchildren, Jim Teach and wife, Gloria, of Hagerstown, and Susan Teach of Ocean City, Md.; step-grandchildren, Haley and Hunter Harris of Gulf Breeze; and nieces and nephews, Scott Rhodes and wife, Cindy, Douglas Rhodes and wife, Christi, and Mike Rhodes and wife, Barbara, all of Hagerstown, and Kim Pile and husband, Kevin, of Williamsport, Md.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dr. David G. Oravec will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
