Ronald Appleyard, 62, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, following an illness. His wife of 27 years, JoAnn, was by his side.

Born June 11, 1950, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was one of six children of the late Violet and William Appleyard.

Ron is survived by two daughters, Amy and Kelly; and two grandchildren, Ivy and Bentley.

Ron dropped out of high school to join the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He returned to school later in life to become a technology education teacher. He recently retired from Frederick County Public Schools, where he taught for 20 years as a middle-school teacher.

Ron enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States, and had visited all 50 states.
