Ronald Charles Gibbons, 89, of Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born March 13, 1921, in Eddystone, Pa., he was the son of the late Clinton Fisk and Gertrude Mary (Kienzle) Gibbons.
He was the husband of the late Mary Elvira (Conner) Gibbons, who died Oct. 20, 2009.
Ronald was a supervisor for the Western Maryland Railroad and later became the chief of the car records office, where he served for 44 years.
He was a past member of the Alsatia Club and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a life member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hagerstown.
Ronald is survived by a daughter, Suzanne G. Cochran of Hagerstown; a stepson, George W. "Bill" Sonnik III of Williamsport, Md.; and five grandchildren, Betsy Ingoe, Robbie Cochran, Chrissy Cochran, Annie Cochran and Elizabeth Sonnik.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ronald was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Paul Koerner and Bernard Koerner.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown, with the Christian Wake Service beginning at 7:45 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown MD 21740.
