Ruth R. (Turner) Hankins, 86, of Charles Town, W.Va., went to her heavenly home Friday, Aug. 31, 2012. She had been under the care of Hospice and her loving caregivers at Hillcrest Manor Personal Care Home.
Born Aug. 2, 1926, in Arthur, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Martin B. Turner and Sarah (Van Fleet) Turner.
She graduated from Romney (W.Va.) High School in 1944. She worked for 14 years for Central and General Telephone Co. in Romney and Charles Town, before becoming a full-time housewife and mother.
She was the wife of the late Charles H. Hankins Jr. They had been married for 49 years.
She was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church of Charles Town.
She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her only sister, Pearl Dawson; five brothers, Lloyd, Homer, Blaine, Emory and Joe Turner; and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Hankins and wife, Linda, of Hagerstown, Md., and Robert Hankins and wife, Beverly, of Charles Town; three grandchildren, Julie Hankins, Christi Hankins and Michael Hankins Jr.; one great-grandchild, Emilio Hankins; and several nephews and nieces.
Services will be performed by Pastor Jimmy Williams of Grace Free Will Baptist Church and Deacon Keith Powers of Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 S. Fairfax Blvd., Ranson, W.Va.
Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, with services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403 or to the charity of one's choice.
