Warren King Gunby, 78, of Rouzerville, Pa., died unexpectedly at his home Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

Born Sept. 7, 1934, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late John W. Gunby and Gretchen (Roosen) Gunby.

He graduated from high school in Dorchester, Mass., and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.

He married Nelda F. (McVey) Gunby on June 9, 1956, in Florence, Texas. They moved to the Waynesboro, Pa., area in the early 1960s.

He worked in telecommunications for AT&T for 28 years, retiring in 1989.

He attended Church of the Apostles in Waynesboro.

Warren loved the outdoors, whether it be doing gardening, yard work, watching nature or creating with nature through his master carpentry skills.

In addition to his wife, Nelda, he is survived by two daughters, Brenda Dunn and her husband, Robert, of Centreville, Va., and Melissa Hockenberry and her husband, Jim, of Waynesboro; one son, Mark Gunby of Rouzerville; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Warren Gunby, who passed away Aug. 28, 2000; a sister, Dorothy Purdy; and a brother, Charlie Gunby.

A funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. John Silassy officiating. A viewing will be held before the service from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
