Wilda R. Gift of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at her home.
Born Feb. 10, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Samuel G. Reel Sr. and Edith Johnson Reel.
She was employed by Fleischer's on the Square in Hagerstown during high school, the University of Maryland Hospital and Washington County Hospital as a nurse in the operating room.
She was an advocate and supporter of arts and music in the Hagerstown community as a member of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra Guild, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and the Washington County Historical Society.
Her interest and passion in caring for others was evident in her volunteer work through REACH, and 16 mission trips to a variety of countries where she offered compassionate care to people who were unable to afford health care. Some of the countries where she provided ministry and service to children and adults were: Mexico, Jamaica, Ecuador, Vietnam and Peru.
She was a member of First Christian Church, PEO Chapter 1 and the Women's Club.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Francis E. Gift; a daughter, Kathryn M. Gift of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; a son, Jonathan G. Gift; daughter-in-law, Richele Scott Gift; granddaughter, Samantha C. Gift; two brothers, Samuel G. Reel Jr. and Franklin J. Reel; a sister, Vivian R. Hicks; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mary Beggarly.
Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Steven Johns-Boehme and the Rev. Fred Harris will officiate.
Interment will be held privately with the family in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
