William Cullen Barr, 93, of Charlotte Hall, Md., died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.
Born April 19, 1919, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William Cullen Jr. and Maude A. (Munson) Barr.
University of Baltimore and Loyola as a business major.
Mr. Barr was a veteran of the United States Navy. While in the Seabees, he was a soloist with the Base Dance band, recording for Armed Forces Radio Services for transmission overseas. Prior to enlistment, Mr. Barr was a professional soloist with church choirs in Hagerstown. From 1954 to 1960, he was associated with the Potomac Playmakers Little Theater Group as an actor and then six years as a director. After moving to Baltimore, he became a soloist in the choir of the Second Presbyterian Church. He was an avid oil painter and golfer.
William was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis Carty Barr, who died Aug. 14, 2001.
Surviving him is a daughter, Deborah Barr Hood and her husband R. Bruce Hood of Timonium, Md.; and a granddaughter, Lindsay Erin Hood of Stamford, Conn.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. George Limmer as celebrant. Inurnment will follow with military honors.
