William Seibert Boyd of Mercersburg, Pa., died peacefully at his home Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. He was born March 17, 1927, at Montpelier Farm, Clear Spring, Md., to the late Frank Mish Boyd and Louise Seibert Boyd.
Preceding him in death were sisters and brothers, Donald "Scott", Randolph, Betty and Patricia Boyd.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Anne "Clarke" Boyd; sister, Nancy Grove and husband, Randy, of Williamsport, Md.; a niece, Nan Grove Guthrie of Greencastle, Pa.; stepchildren, Peter Himes and wife, Kimberly, of Mercersburg, Michael Hines and wife, Dulcy, of Chesterfield, Va., Kenneth Hines and wife, Lisa, of Leominster, Mass. and Mary Hines; grandchildren, Madison Ann Hines, Brandon Boyd Hines, Ryan Clarke Hines and Hannah Grace Hines; daughter, Bonnie Boyd of Massachusetts; and many cousins.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy on USS LST-944 in Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was a third degree member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge in Concord, Mass. William retired from Robert Shaw Controls in Tennessee.
There will be no viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring. The Rev. Charles Mackley will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring.
