Zane L. Metzer Sr., 76, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at his residence.
Born March 20, 1936, in Wolfsville, Md., he was the son of the late Charles W. Sr. and Elsie M. Palmer Metzer.
Growing up in the Wolfsville area, he attended the Salem United Methodist Church and in recent years attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. For many years he worked in the construction business.
Surviving Zane are eight children, Terry Mason of Hagerstown, Steve Mason of Clear Spring, Zane Metzer Jr. of Hagerstown, Tawana Sue Fisher and husband, Larry, of Keedysville, Ralph Metzer of Clear Spring, Kay Call and husband, David, of Williamsport, Clifford Adkins of Hagerstown, and Nathan Adkins of Salisbury; seven sisters, Rhea Poling of Braddock Heights, Delphine Zimmerman of Myersville, Gaynel Myers of Fairplay, Christina Carbaugh of Hagerstown, Sue Douglas and Judy Hamilton, both of Frederick, and Elsie Bell of Sharpsburg; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his special friend, Beverly Durst of Hagerstown and numerous nieces and nephews.
Zane was preceded in death by his fiancée of 36 years, Barbara Adkins; four brothers, Charles Metzer Jr., Ralph Metzer, Jerry Metzer and Robert Metzer and one sister, Fae Souders.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, with Pastor Randall Reid officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery, Wolfsville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
