In what is believed to be a first in U.S. professional sports, the Seattle Sounders FC announced Wednesday that it will allow season ticket holders and ‘Alliance’ members to vote to retain General Manager Adrian Hanauer or to cite a “lack of confidence” in his leadership.
The voting will begin Sunday, Oct. 7, at noon and conclude at 11:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.
Sounders season ticket members will have the option to vote online at SoundersFCVote.com or in-person at one of the October league matches at CenturyLink Field, October 7, 17, or 21.
Sounders FC season ticket members will need their primary email address, which is registered with the team, and their account ID, which is located on their ticket or membership card.
“This is an unprecedented vote in U.S. professional sports and the vision of Sounders FC owner Drew Carey,” the comedian, the Sounders said in a news release.
All 2012 Sounders FC season ticket members, designated season ticket holders and anyone who has paid the $125 Alliance membership fee prior to Oct. 7 can vote.
The team will staff four voting locations at CenturyLink Field at each league match in October.
Voting at the stadium will be open 90 minutes before the first kick and during halftime.
