Head Start has been an appreciative recipient of our community's generosity for many years. This Christmas was no exception. I want to thank the Airport Cafe and their patrons for providing 102 turkeys at both Thanksgiving and at Christmas. These folks purchase the turkeys, load them into a van and deliver them to me for distribution. What a job!
The ladies of the Kiwanis donated beautiful dolls with homemade clothing and boxes of Legos for several of the children. Tim Pond and his crew from Toys for Tots provided Christmas for over 50 children. They came with boxes of toys, which filled my office. Parents are contacted and are able to select something they think their child would enjoy.
Thank you to several community members and Head Start staff who purchased gift cards to be given to families this year. I also want to thank Melanie Lundquist for her amazing Sweet Dreams project. Each Head Start child received a bag complete with pajamas, a stuffed animal, a book, a pillow and pillow case and a homemade blanket. We invited each family to the school where she read to the children, talked about bedtime routines and then presented each child with a Sweet Dreams bag. In many cases, the bags were bigger than the children. It was exciting and chaotic in a grand way. In many cases, the donors do not get to see the look on the faces of the children or hear the thank-yous from the adults who receive these gifts. I want to tell you that your efforts, thoughts, work and donations are appreciated more than you realize.
Once again, thank you.
