The biggest splash doesn’t always create the most ripples. Instead, it is the stones that are cast day in and day out that touch the greatest number of lives and provide the foundation that goes furthest in supporting a community.
John P. Itell has served a list of people and agencies too lengthy for an all-inclusive list. The Boy Scouts, the Community Foundation of Washington County MD Inc., Children In Need Inc., and more have benefited from Itell’s expertise and commitment to the community.
For all his good works, Itell, an accounting partner and analyst at Albright, Crumbacker, Moul & Itell, has been named Washington County Business Person of the Year by the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission.
The award is given to a businessperson who has demonstrated excellence in business in the preceding year, enhanced the image of the business community or who has provided superior service to business and the community as a whole.
At a recent awards ceremony, Itell spoke of the value of companies that become involved in their communities, and said that even small efforts can make big impressions.
It’s a philosophy we wish all local companies would adopt. The theory that many hands make light work isn’t new, but sometimes we need to be reminded that we can make a difference. And that it’s easier to make a difference when all those around us are trying as well.
As such, we would be remiss not to mention the other winners as well: At Your Service Award — Rentals Unlimited Inc.; Going Green Award — Hagerstown Community College; Large Business of the Year Award — Brook Lane Health Services; Leading Edge Award — Biaera Technologies; Non-Profit Award — The Maryland Theatre; and Small Business of the Year Award — Olde Homestead At Cronise Market Place.
We congratulate Itell and the other winners, and thank them, too, for their service not just to the business community, but to the community of which we are all members, the community of the human race.
