GOP House wants middle class to foot the debt bill

To the editor:

John Boehner, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, had a post-election press conference where he declared that a tax increase for the higher income brackets (what President Obama wants) is unacceptable. Because, according to Boehner, half of the taxpayers in those brackets are small-business owners and increasing their taxes would lead to the loss of thousands of jobs. However, Boehner also announced that he would be amenable to eliminating tax deductions and to tax reform.

OK, let me get this straight.

Eliminating deductions and closing loopholes means that somebody will pay more taxes. Right? Who will that be? It can’t be the taxpayers in the higher income brackets, because we already established that increasing their taxes would lead to the loss of jobs. So then, tell me Mr. Boehner, who will be the ones to pay more taxes, because deductions are eliminated and loopholes are closed? Who?

Well, it’s actually quite easy to see. It will be you and me. I mean not Boehner and me — no, you, the reader, and me.

Why play shady games, Mr. Boehner? Just tell us up front that you plan to balance the budget on the back of the middle class.

Thank you for fundraising support

To the editor:

I would like to thank family, friends and all who helped make our fundraiser Oct. 26 at the Elks on Robinwood Drive for my sons, Tyler and Travis, a success.

Proceeds were sent to Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore in care of Dr. Gerald Raymond. I received a letter from Dr. Raymond acknowledging the donation, and he assured me that it will be used for ALD studies.

No words can express my gratitude for the generosity and support I received. Again, thank you.
