“As a taxpayer, this article in Wednesday’s paper that the groups must now account for county hotel-motel fund grants, taxpayers better look at this really close. This gives the county administrator way too much power. The county commissioners, if the grant is $25,000 or less, our elected county officials won’t vote on it. That’s up to the county administrator. That gives the county administrator way too much ... I for one don’t feel that we need a county administrator if we have five or six county commissioners. We either have one or the other.”

“The rabid cat found on Northern Avenue is just the beginning of the problem. There is a large and growing population of feral cats in the woods behind the old McDonald’s building on Northern Avenue, and people are providing shelter and feeding them on a daily basis. Not only are people’s pets in danger of being bit, but with three schools in the area, how about our children? What do we do, wait until something  happens, or do we eliminate the problem?”

“To the person who called in and had to make a statement about my wanting the light at Locust and Washington Street synchronized with the other lights as you go through town: First of all, I have not had a speeding ticket in over 15 years of driving. Secondly, what do you want, the fourth accident to happen at the intersection in the next month? There’s already been three this month. That would be the fourth. ... It’s impossible to get through the lights until they get synchronized. I guess another accident is waiting to happen.”

“This call is concerning the caller from Hagerstown, concerning contraception. She is correct; the government does not have to pay for their birth control, but the problem is that all the insurance companies, when they pick it up, will have to split the cost over all their users of the plan. So people, other people do pay for your birth control. And I don’t know of any plans that cover Viagra.”

“I see that Williamsport Little League used a little more common sense when having their opening day the weekend after Easter, and not scheduling theirs for Easter. Evidently, the West End doesn’t feel that some of these children’ll have the need to travel out of town for family for Easter. I guess baseball comes before that, too. It just would have taken a little bit of — some of these kids that are gonna have to travel out of town. Could they not think a little bit about families and Easter, and schedule their opening day like Williamsport did?”

“I had a jaw-dropping comment in the paper the other day that I read. Someone wrote, ‘Please explain the health care plan that Congress wants to pass.’ Now, please, caller, don’t you listen to the news or read the news? No one knows what’s in that bill. Remember Nancy Pelosi saying we won’t know what’s in the bill until we pass it? Is that the way our laws go, you pass the bill, and then you try to find out what’s in it? No wonder this country’s in a mess, because nobody educates themselves as to what’s going on.”

“These Democrats calling in about what all Obama’s done gotta be kidding. What world are they living in?”

“For three years the Democrats have been working hard, trying to get an infrastructure and transportation bill passed that would create millions of jobs for Americans. The Senate passed it with bipartisan votes, but when it went to the House, the Republicans put it off again, as they have in past three years. It doesn’t look like they really care if we have jobs, or how much we are suffering during these terrible times.”

“Consumers, please, oil went down $3 and something in a week, but gas is going up, up, up. What’s going on? Where’s our consumer protection agency? And please, voters, get O’Malley out of there. All he wants to do is raise everything. I live in Cumberland, and no way is my sewer going to Baltimore; $60 a month. That’s stupid.”

“This is in response to a Williamsport caller about insurance companies in charge of our health care. I recently threw my back out for the third time. I went to the doctor, and every other word out of his mouth was, ‘Insurance won’t let me do this,’ or ‘They want to try something different.’ So, yes, I have noticed that the insurance companies are running our health care now. If doctors want to get paid, they do what the insurance company allows them. So you might as well just call the insurance company for treatment.”

“My comment is that I think it’s totally ridiculous that we no longer have a bus terminal for the Greyhound bus here. I mean, it’s pretty ridiculous that everybody has to go to Frederick to catch the bus. And I just want to say that with all the buildings that we have that are empty that we should have a bus terminal in Hagerstown. There’s no reason that we shouldn’t, and that’s my comment.”

“Please, please, please, somebody tell me how to stop robocalls. I’ve gotten 10 today, from this election. I got eight yesterday and six the day before. Please, please, please, somebody tell me how to stop this.”
