“To the Hagerstown caller noticing the empty bike lanes in town: Don’t worry, once they build that stadium, those bike lanes will probably be full.”

“I’m calling to thank the people who organized and put on the cruise-in at Valley Mall on Saturday night. I attended, and it was a great show, and they had a band there named Chubby that was outstanding. It was a great turnout, over 300 cars registered, I’m told, and thank goodness for the good weather. I just wanted to thank the organizers for a great public event that a lot of people missed, but a lot of people did enjoy.”

“The Herald-Mail should be ashamed of itself, putting that cartoon in there about Chick-fil-A. There is no indication of any prejudice whatsoever at their stores, and they have, the owner has the right to his own religious beliefs. Shame on you. You’re turning out to be a real prejudiced rag yourself.”

"The no tax, back-to-school no tax thing this week, back-to-school supplies, but it doesn’t count bookbags, papers, notebooks, all the actual supplies that you need, it’s just clothing or shoes, is that true? Because that doesn’t make any sense. We had to buy a lot of supplies, you know. Someone let me know.”

“I was in Hagerstown on Tuesday, the 14th. I was coming on 70 east, I was going to come off onto U.S. 40. The people coming out of the off-ramp to go onto 70 east do not stop. Be careful. I almost got run over by a tractor-trailer carrying a large load of wood. He did not stop coming off that exit, or I should say entrance ramp. Like I said, just be careful coming off of 70 east to go onto 40 because you could get hit very easy.”

“I was reading the paper, the 14th, and I see where they were going to put a park out on Eastern Boulevard, and a park — out Locust Street and there was a little space there and they’re having a park there. I have a suggestion for the mayor and council, they should put a park downtown.”

“Change we can believe in. This was what President Obama was telling us four years ago. He sold us, the American people, on change. Unemployment, over 8 percent over the last 40 months, 45 percent increase in food stamps, $5 trillion debt increase over his period of being president.”

“Put welfare people back to work. Make them work for their money. Cheating on welfare, there’s so much cheating going on, and too many unwed mothers having children that the welfare takes care of. Cut taxes for the middle-income people. Take care of the elderly. Raise their Social Security.”

“Has a Democrat ever told a Republican, or vice versa, that they had a good idea, and let’s work on this together? I doubt it because then the idea would benefit the American people, and it won’t happen because they are more worried about which party would get credit for it. I’m a Democrat, but I listen to both sides before I vote. I’m retired and on Medicare and Medicaid, but I believe this Paul fellow, Republican vice president candidate, has some pretty good ideas on them. Folks, we need to start somewhere.”

“Well, I guess the rich people are jumping up and down at Mitt Romney’s choice of Ryan for a VP. His plan, his big plan is to give the rich people another tax break. They’ll pay about 1 percent in taxes, so I guess they’re all happy. And give the people who are (on) Medicare a voucher to buy their health care. I’ve heard him say that myself. And of course, those vouchers are not going to keep up with the private sector’s raise in health costs every year. So good luck with that.”
