“To the Sharpsburg Little League: Congratulations on winning the 9- and 10-year-old districts. But to the person who called in about Sharpsburg winning, and then about Conococheague having three losses: It is what it is, and rules are made to be followed. You, as adults, knowing the rules and not following them, caused this poor kid not to play. So adults, grow up. It’s supposed to be for the kids, and get your roster in order.”
— Boonsboro
“Does Vice President Biden have a proposal to lower the debt? No. Does President Obama have a plan to lower the debt? No, but the president did, three weeks ago, have a party for certain Hollywood people in the White House. Who paid for that? And that’s not lowering the debt. Let’s stop all the stupid spending.”
— Williamsport
“Allan Powell conveniently left out George Soros in his discussion of why the wealthy control America’s political future.”
— Brighwood Acres East
“Everything keeps going up but paychecks. Once they get the economy going again, the bosses need to start giving employees some of the money they took from them. My company is having a better year than last, and still no raises. Good for the boss; not so good for the employees.”

“I used to have a solar house that didn’t work very well when there weren’t sufficient sunny days, so I have ... questions about this solar farm: 1.) What will be the real kilowatt-hour cost? 2.) How many of the workers will be bona fide Washington County residents and U.S. citizens? 3.) What will be the profit for Gov. O’Malley’s former employees? The whole thing kind of stinks.”
— Hagerstown
“Democrats, Republicans, Democrats, Republicans — who cares? They’re all in this together. They’re all responsible for what’s going on this country. And neither one of them seem to have an answer. Cutting Social Security and Medicare, that’s not the answer. Those people have already paid their share. We need to cut welfare, need to get people off their butts, we need to put them to work, we need to do something. Where’s all these jobs, President Obama? I don’t understand it. Why are we fighting amongst ourselves? The politicians are our enemies. They need to go, one way or the other, people. ... Don’t be blind to your party.”

“The park in Funks-town is a nice little park. When it was first put in, used to be the Commons. All you old-timers will remember that. It was also called H.T. Harp. It was named after Henry Harp. The sign got knocked down, torn down, or just blew away. I was promised by one of the councilmen it would be replaced. Come on, let’s get the sign back up, in memory of Henry. Let’s go, fellas.”

“Try to understand that a ‘cut’ in the budget in Washington is a reduction in the rate of increase. The federal budget increases by about 7 percent every year. If that increase is reduced to 5 percent instead of the projected 7 percent, then it is called a ‘cut,’ even though the budget went up by 5 percent. This and the fact that we take in $200 billion a month in taxes and spend $340 billion in that same month is why the country is $14 trillion in debt now. Try running your household this way. The only real solution is to cut spending. Even if we confiscated 100 percent of the income of the rich, we would still be in debt. Stop the spending.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.
“Falling Waters, my bank has also stopped returning canceled checks, and I’ll bet they’re not the only ones, and I’m not pleased with this change, either. But they will provide, on request and at no charge, copies of checks. So I suggest you check out other banks, because not all of them — here, anyway — are charging for check copies. My bank is a community bank, not a national, which may make a difference. And incidentally, when I looked into this I found that some companies no longer physically return checks, but do transactions by electronic transfer, which is apparently perfectly legal. So this is not all the fault of the bank.”
— Frederick, Md.
“I’m calling about, in response to the person from Falling Waters saying about having to pay for copies of their checks if they need them. All they have to do is go online and you can print them out online.”
