“I just want to compliment The Herald-Mail for the wonderful Christmas ornament articles that were in the paper over the Christmas season. I thoroughly enjoyed reading each one. Thank you, Herald-Mail. I hope that this will be a yearly event.”

“So this man in New York who killed the firefighters after he set his house on fire, he was a convicted killer, having killed his grandmother about 30 years ago. How is it that a convicted killer can get a gun, using the same kind of gun that killed the 20 kids in Connecticut? This gun stuff has to be stopped. There has to be better checks to keep these idiots from getting them.”
— Hagerstown
“You anti-gunners out there: You guys don’t have a clue. I’m a woman, a veteran, a mom, a grandma. I own a gun, and I like it. I like shooting at targets, I like having that opportunity. It’s a lot of fun. So you don’t understand. ... Banning guns isn’t the solution. Getting mental health for people who have problems is.”
— Smithsburg
“The Bill of Rights is hanging on by a slender thread. If the Second Amendment goes under, it will be followed by free speech, freedom of religion and the freedom to manage your own finances. Under-the-table deals with the Bank for International Settlements and the U.N. lie in wait to annihilate the Constitution, while the news media dreams on.”
— Hagerstown
“Last night I was watching TV. I saw 43 people getting killed on one show. This is what’s causing all these people to go out here and shoot other people. There’s too much violence, and I hope the movie theaters and stuff, and the movie producers are told about this. Violence on TV is what’s causing children, and autistic children, and anybody else that goes out and kills people. They see it on TV, and that’s what they do.”
— Clear Spring
“I would just like to thank the Christian Ministries for delivering a delicious Christmas meal on Christmas Day to the C. William Brooks building. It was delicious, and thank you very much.”
— Hagerstown
“I’d like to thank the Russian leader, the Soviet premier or whatever his title is, for stopping adoption of Russian children by Americans. This is just a racket. What about the American children that need better homes and better upbringings? There are so many children here in our own country that need help. Stop sending our dollars overseas. And they always use the children as a leverage point ... a leverage tool. The governments don’t care about these children. They just care about the dollars — and I’m talking about the U.S. and Russia. Adopt our own.”
— Hagerstown
“Having read all the anti-gun statements in Mail Call, not once have I seen anyone acknowledge that the Second Amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting. It was second only to free speech, to protect the populace from a dictatorial and all-assuming government. I guess most of the opinion writers who want to repeal the Second Amendment want a complete nanny state.”
— Kearneysville, W.Va.
“To the person who wrote about Potomac Edison’s ‘new customer service’ billing estimates: Potomac Edison has served our home for 33 years. For 31 years, we received an accurate bill each month and graciously paid each one. Two years ago (we were then retired 13 years), estimates came every other month. Our bills began to fluctuate higher or lower. In 2012, our meter was read twice; once in June and in December. We received our December bill that was six times higher than November, on Dec. 22, payable in 17 days. This is cruel treatment for the elderly retired.”

“Mail Call Dec. 27 article, repeal Second Amendment: OK, then post this in classified: ‘All bad guys turn in your guns, pretty please.’”
