"This is to the person who is always watching CNN and is a retired military person, speaking about cutting Social Security and Medicare, that he always hears on CNN. You forgot to mention that's a Republican plan, not a Democrat plan. And to the people who were shocked about the headlines about Betty Ford: I'm not a Republican, but Betty Ford was to be admired, because of ... the need for people not to be ashamed to get treatment. She did many great things, and so she was — she would have been proud to have that headline. She even started a clinic."

"Where is all this campaign money coming from to re-elect these politicians who are hurting this country? Why not put that toward the national debt? Buying votes is an expensive business."
"To those whining about the teachers' pay raise: I'd like to know how many of you actually spend time in the schools volunteering, observing, or as a chaperone on field trips, etc. I would venture to say not many of you. I have, and you couldn't pay me enough money to be a teacher. The disrespect, foul language, lack of discipline, and oh, yeah, don't even get me started on the clothing choices. Can you say 'pathetic'? It does begin at home, so how about taking some responsibility for your child's behavior and education, and the next time you see a teacher, the only thing you need to say is 'Thank you.'"
"As a military service member, I always believed in my commander in chief, my members of Congress and fellow military leaders, trusting them to do their best for our country. Recently, however, I feel being lied to and cheated by those I have always looked up to and considered true patriots and honorable. All our troops, past and future, deserve the best in health care, like Congress members, and any intention of reversing their commitment is not honorable, and close to treason. USFHP is the best available, and we rely on it, as good health and treatment is paramount to a strong and vital military."
"I was reading your sports section, which is a very good sports section, however, I cannot believe that the sports editor and your reporters missed, this is the first year that Sharpsburg Little League has ever won a district title at any age group, when our 9- and 10-'s won the district title, and it's also the first year that they've ever had a team ... in it. That team was Conococheague; has three losses. So hopefully you all can do a big story on that."
"I see today's paper, Wednesday, talked about the county commissioners' small- business loans. Well, how about the poor homeowners that have lost their homes or are gonna lose their homes? Why don't they get a break in our society? County commissioners, remember one thing. I can't wait until you leave the office, because we're gonna kick you out. I'm just so tired and weary that there's only one side in this city and county, which is always the wrong side."
"I've noticed a pleasant change in the local newspaper's coverage of Little League baseball this year. What I'm talking about is, last year there was the same pictures of the same two or three players, every time there was Little League coverage. This year it's much more fair. There's a lot more kids getting their pictures in the paper. It probably means a lot to them. But, yeah, it's a pleasant change that there's not so much favoritism this year."
"I'd like to thank John Phillips and his staff for a terrific day in the park. The fireworks were the best they've ever been, and everything went along great."
"To the person who called in to Mail Call and said they don't normally want to be involved with kooks and loons who call in to Mail Call: First of all, stop the name calling. Not necessary. By the way, you are involved. Did you not call in? If I ran Mail Call, I would not print any article where this is name calling. How intelligent is name calling? You can get your point across without it, so everyone, stop it."

"I want to thank the city of Hagerstown, the City Park, for a great concert in the park Saturday night. The band was Tori Anderson and Possum Holler. It couldn't have been a better night; beautiful, the music was great. What a great idea. You should always do that on a Saturday night."
"Could somebody please tell me if the health department has a ruling on incontinent people swimming in public pools? I have recently seen this, where incontinent adults are swimming in a public pool, and I do think that there should be a ruling against this."
