“I’d like to respond to the person who put in the newspaper about ‘What am I doing paying $7.50 a month in my water bill?’ Lady, the $7.50 every month is for helping to clean up the Chesapeake Bay, which is never going to happen. It’s a moneymaking racket for the government. You hit it right on the head; $7.50 for something that doesn’t do me any good, and all it is is a moneymaking racket for the government.”
— Hagerstown
“I’m a Democrat, and I’m a moderate progressive. Frederick caller, please tell us why, in your own words, leftists are so evil, because all we care about is old people, people in general, women and children, and the Earth, for future generations. And what is so wrong with that? What makes us so evil? While you care about drilling every single part of the Earth, killing every animal in sight — and you call me evil. Sorry, Frederick caller, you have no argument.”
— Hagerstown
“I went to get my emission test. I asked, do motorcycles get emission tested? I was told ‘no,’ they get good gas mileage. I couldn’t hardly hold back from laughing. What does gas mileage got to do with carbon dioxide? Cars, trucks, and yes, motorcycles, will kill you. Motorcycles, no catalytic converters, no exhaust, means more carbon monoxide.”
— Clear Spring
“I would like to respond to the person in today’s paper (6/4 Mail Call) that they should leave the vote to the Washington County residents as far as the stadium. I agree 100 percent, since we will be helping to foot this bill. Our county government shouldn’t have the final say, since it is so expensive. How many others feel this way? Let’s take a poll and let’s start calling our government officials, and demand this. I guess if they don’t want to listen to us, then out the door they go.”
— Washington County
“Hey, I have a new idea. Take the $25 million and bring some new business to downtown Hagerstown. Why not use it to support a new grocery store and a new discount department store, a joint venture between business and government? Beautifying the downtown didn’t work, the ballpark won’t work, so get some worthwhile business and maybe people will want to live and shop in town.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.
“I think we should all put a yellow dye in our septic tanks. If it shows up in the Chesapeake Bay, then and only then will I believe we are polluting the bay from the Hagerstown area.”
— Boonsboro
“If Hagerstown loses the Suns to Winchester, it will be because of the local politicians’ insistence on a downtown site for the new sports stadium. Winchester, on the other hand, when blocked for their first choice in their city, has come up with alternate sites, and among those are two I-81 sites which would be ideal for expansion and traffic management. I don’t think Hagerstown officials really care about keeping minor league baseball in the area if it doesn’t fit their agenda.”
— Hagerstown
“Potomac Edison claims it can’t find meter readers. Sunday’s article neglected to include stats on applications, interviews or job offers. Given the unemployment rate. ... My meter in Hagerstown hasn’t been read since January.”
— Hagerstown
“I know a lot of people give complaints about Potomac Edison. I called Potomac Edison about a problem I had. Within an hour, they were at my door, solving that problem. Potomac Edison deserves a lot of kudos for this.”
— Hagerstown
“With two hangings in two months, I think someone needs to get their act together at the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Maybe a staff overhaul is in order.”
