“Leave your empty medicine containers off at 21112 Leiters Mill Road, one mile west of Leitersburg, for Christian Aid Ministries. They are sent overseas for their clinics. Also accepting clothes, shoes and towels.”
— Hagerstown
“Instead of demolishing old schools that are being replaced by new schools at different locations, why not have the Central Office move into one of those schools and use? If it had been good enough for the students for several years, they should be enough, good enough for the board members and employees, who should be out in the field anyway.”
— Williamsport
“I was watching the politics of Wisconsin last night, and our governor of Maryland got up there and said some of the nastiest, smartest things, for a person who just won his state, and they got their taxes down, they’re out of debt, and they’re getting back together, and the state of Maryland is terrible, and everybody knows the state was broke and he’s hiding it, and I have no feelings for him at all, and I hope he retires, or they impeach him. There’s no sense in that.”
— Hagerstown
“I just read in the paper where they’re cutting the school health program. I am stunned and horrified. I have children who attend a small school in the Mount Lena area, and the school nurse in there is absolutely phenomenal. She takes care of my children and all their medical needs. I can’t imagine not seeing her smiling face, and having her call me when my children ... and something needs to be corrected in this. Think of the children. What is wrong with you county commissioners?”
— Boonsboro
“Human sexuality is very complex. We usually think of human behavior as a dichotomy. A person is either male or female, heterosexual or homosexual, etc. The facts indicate that there is a continuum of sexual orientation. None of us are totally male or female. We are a combination of the two. Our bodies are ... even our bones show that we are a combination of both sexes. Someone wrote in the paper that parents need to be understanding and supportive of their children, when it comes to sexual orientation.”
— Halfway
“I just want to say that the corn we’ve been getting in the grocery stores this year is the best it’s ever been. Starting in March, April, May, it tastes just like the corn we get here homegrown in the summertime. I can’t believe it. It is the best. Hope everybody else got some.”
— Monrovia, Md.
“Three cheers for the city council for putting the proposed pit bull ordinance on hold, in favor of a comprehensive leash/positive control law for all dogs. There are no dangerous dog breeds, but there are plenty of careless owners.”
— Chambersburg, Pa.
“Someone commented about the beautiful trees Hagerstown has planted and suggested that they weren’t being maintained because they weren’t using mulch. Mulch is the worst thing that can be done to trees, unless it is kept several inches away from the base of the tree. Mulch promotes disease and mold if allowed to touch the bark. Mulch is being used to excess everywhere, but is an absolute no-no for trees. For further information, contact the University of Maryland Agricultural Depaerment. The only maintenance a tree needs is water.”
— Boonsboro
“Instead of borrowing all this money and spending it on the stadium, how about borrowing the money and fixing up the streets, which are badly in need, and that would help the majority, not just some minority of people who go to the ball games?”
— Cearfoss
“Isn’t it sad that the county can’t afford to fund the nurses program anymore, because of the pension, but they can afford to do a stadium? I think we have our priorities all wrong.”
— Hagerstown
