— Washington County
“It’s a shame the people of Hagerstown had to use the recycle bins as a dump site. It has ruined it for everyone in the county. As far as the bins in Funkstown, as long as the county keeps them maintained and dumped on a timely basis, I see no problem with anyone recycling in Funkstown. All of the people from Funkstown saying to not bring your recycling to Funkstown must not be true Funkstowners. As a longtime Funkstowner, we welcome people into our community, especially for such a worthwhile thing. So please, bring your recycling to Funkstown, just not your trash.”
— Funkstown
“Based on Mail Call, people in Funkstown don’t want us driving on their roads or using their recycle bin. What’s next, not breathing the air over Funkstown? I can accommodate them and not go to their businesses. I’ll be glad to do that.”
— Hagerstown
“People need to call and write in to AARP and tell them that this idea they have about not trying to block any cuts in Social Security, it’s a ridiculous idea for them to say something like that. And as far as the government goes, how can we give to other countries, and then cheat our people that have been paying in for all these years to Social Security, by cutting their Social Security?”
— Hagerstown
“Well, I see our county commissioners caved in again to the school teachers. Going to give them a raise. You know, that’s strange, they give the schoolteachers a raise, but we got a president that doesn’t give the seniors any additional increase on their Social Security. There’s something wrong with that picture. Why not freeze the teachers’ pay scale, too, for a while? It won’t hurt them a bit. Where else are they going to go and get, make that kind of money that they’re making?”
— Hagerstown
“The people who are upset because Washington County is supposedly moving backward with recycling, moving the dumpsters: It’s because the people use it as a landfill and dump their trash, not because they don’t want to recycle. Because people use it as a dump site. All you need to do is look around at the recycling centers. On Monday morning, in front of the old County Market, two dump truck loads of trash from people. So if you use it as a recycling center as it’s supposed to be and not a landfill, the boxes would probably still be there.”
