“We want what Keedysville has: Trash one time a week, recycling one time a week, without paying the town more money. Why won’t you listen to us, Mr. Mayor?”

“To the Good Samaritan lady who took me to the gas station when I ran out of gas on I-70, and brought me back to my vehicle to put gas in my truck, thank you.”

“It’s really sad, every time I read in the paper about a caregiver stealing money from the elderly. I’d like to know why these families aren’t paying more close attention to their loved ones’ bank accounts. How are these caregivers given so much access? Why do they have bank access to these elderly people? It’s ridiculous that every time you open a paper, another caregiver is stealing.”

“When the dollars per gallon gets to $4, it’s time to show President Obama the door.”

“I’m sitting here reading the Wednesday, Feb. 29, paper, and I see they have a ‘Wanted’ section. There were two, we’ll call them clowns’ pictures. I think that’s a great idea. I think you guys should do this every week, once a week put at least two people’s pictures in the paper who are wanted. Maybe our community can come together and help find these people and help the police department catch them.”

“Those people who are complaining about paying more taxes or paying for the stadium, which we could use as a multiuse facility, where were their complaints for the Barbara Ingram school, with $12 millon of taxpayer money, plus $1 million dollars each year operating costs, for 200 people? Where is their outrage at that? You know, get real, Washington County.”

“I don’t know what the president feels personally about burning the Quran, but I do know that he apologized to the Afghanis in order to save American and NATO lives. Two American NATO officers were shot in cold blood in their offices by an enraged Afghan official. If we are to get our people out of Afghanistan, we must have the trust and cooperation of the Afghanis, in order to protect those we leave behind to run the various security operations, which something resembling order in that country demands. Right next door, Pakistan has the bomb and is in league with the Taliban. We must keep Afghanistan stable or the next 9/11 could be nuclear.”

“I want to thank Gov. O’Malley and those legislators who voted for marriage equality. Your heart and mind are in the right place. You make me proud to call Maryland home. Shame on those who use religion to deny love and justice. Religion should be life-giving. At the very least, it must do no harm. The oppression, suffering and death caused by anti-gay religious teachings and practices is another stain on the history of civilization. May the healing begin.”

“Pete Waters’ editorial in the Sunday paper was off base. The Marines were wrong, and Leonard Pitts pointed it out. And while I understand that the stress of combat can make men do some terrible things, you can’t acknowledge the stress of combat makes them pull out a camera, take a picture of it and put it on the Internet. It’s just wrong. When Pete was running the prisons as a warden, if any of his correctional officers had behaved like that, I doubt he would be running around saying ‘you have to understand, it’s stress that makes them do it.’ No, they would have been disciplined, as these Marines should have been disciplined.”

“We trust that Herald-Mail readers saw the letter from George Anikis in the Feb. 27 edition, re: facts and information about the Suns stadium.  If not, it would be well worth your time to check it out. In light of the facts brought out in the letter, we will be interested in hearing what those who are in favor of building a new stadium have to say.”
