“To the caller who would like to see only positive comments in Mail Call: I agree that a lot of comments are stupid and arrogant, but how boring would it be to read only thank you notes, comments on the nice weather, great Christmas lights, and someone’s personal daydreaming thoughts?”

“You know what, I think it’s about time for a house cleaning for those people down there in Congress. We got all these people laid off from work, but yet Congress and all down there can’t get their heads together, and there’s going to be thousands of other people out of jobs. So I think if that happens, we ought to just go to Washington and just clean house down there ... get some fresh blood in there, instead of having people that rides the rail all the time and knows the system.”

“This call is to the Smithsburg caller who said there was no good economic news for four years, and that liberals built that. I guarantee you I would (not) trade the last four years for the previous eight of George Bush, where we had a terrorist attack, largest in history, a collapsing auto and bank industry, also a collapsing Wall Street, also we had two wars that were totally unfunded that were unnecessary.”

“Has anyone paid attention to our vice president when the president is speaking? He looks like the Marcel Marceau of the Obama theater.”

“The mayor and council of the city of Hagerstown should get out their calculators. The BOE is on the right track. The $15 (million) to $20 million proposals for downtown Hagerstown are ridiculous, next to maybe a total of $10 million that would be into the power site.”

“Surprise, surprise, surprise. Sen. Mike Miller, down in Annapolis, now wants to raise the gas tax, so he can fund the transportation fund. After him and the liberals down there raided it year after year, they want the citizens now to pay it back. It’s time in 2014 for you people to open your eyes and vote these guys out.”

“I’m calling about the BOE. They do not need to be downtown in that — where there’s nothing but banks, a school, lawyers and a courthouse. Other than that, there’s nothing in downtown Hagerstown. The BOE employs a lot of people that need parking and stuff. Downsville Pike, Allegheny Power, is the perfect location for the school board, and it should have bought it years ago. ... That’s where they belong.”

“Someone called in to Mail Call about the price of home heating oil. I have a question about that, too, I can’t seem to get an answer for. It takes much less money, as far as refining home heating oil, than what it does gasoline, yet gasoline is cheaper. Home heating oil, there’s hardly any of a refinery process involved, yet it costs more than a gallon of gas. This is a question I think needs answered by someone in authority, because it doesn’t make sense.”

“I think since Hancock has such a drug problem, instead of the five police officers that Hancock has setting at stop signs and issuing stop sign tickets, and speeding, maybe they concentrate more on Main Street, where the drug problem is, and not the back streets where the stop signs are.”

“I was in line behind a young lady at (a store) today, and the cashier was admiring her little jeweled change purse, and the young lady dumped her change out of it and gave it the cashier, and I thought that was very sweet. So there are some really, really, really nice people around.”
