“I’m calling about the comment in Tuesday’s Mail Call about the property on Fairview Mountain in Clear Spring. I think the landlord is just mad because they had to do something on the property. Too bad. If you want to be a landlord or homeowner, you need to be more responsible, and not so lazy or cheap to spend your money. I think Clear Spring should be on these landlords. It makes more people just mad, and gives Clear Spring a bad reputation. Come on.”

“Know what the difference is between a recession, a depression, and a recovery? A recession is when your neighbor’s out of work, a depression is when you’re out of work, a recovery is when President Obama’s out of work. True when Reagan said it of Carter, true of Obama as well. End it in November.”

“You know, we’re fighting for this and fighting for that and giving to this and giving to that. This drug problem in Hagerstown is getting to be terrible. The police know where these people are dealing drugs and everything, and you tell them, and nothing gets done about it. You know, and people are trying to raise families, you know, their kids and their kids’ kids, and they can’t grow up around people like this here. And the police need to start cracking down ... and the judges need to crack down on them.”

“You know, I listened to Mitt Romney’s speech on foreign affairs the other day, and he was condemning President Obama for not doing more to help these countries like Egypt and the countries that lost their dictatorships, and the people are rioting out in the streets and everything. Just what would he have done? When you lose a dictator and you get new regimes, that takes a little while longer to get the things straightened out.”

“Seriously, how can there be so many people driving around with no taillights, in the dark, the fog, and the rain? And what’s up with these blacked-out taillights? How smart is that?”
— Hagerstown
“To all the callers who are probably conservative-leaning, raving about Gov. Romney’s debate performance: You’re right; one of you said that we don’t know Romney, we need to know him. Of course we don’t know him, because the guy constantly flip-flops. I watch all his speeches, and it’ll never tell you how he’s going to give all these tax cuts. He won’t tell you what he’s going to cut. And then he tells you he’s going to give you health care parts that you like. He’s going to give you everything under the sun, and then he’ll voucherize health care.”

“This is regarding denial of voter photo ID. My husband and I took a three-week road trip. We had to show a photo ID at every motel we stayed in. Is it more important to know who is staying at a motel, instead of who is voting?”

“Forty-seven percent of Americans get government assistance. How many more trillions of dollars will America be in debt if this continues? Of the 47 percent, how much is fraud and waste?”

“I went down to the Thunder on the Square Friday night, but I wasn’t looking for things to complain about. What I found was about 300 just amazing, rebuilt, antique and custom-built automobiles. I wasn’t looking for broken sidewalks. Matter of fact, you could walk right in the middle of the street and you didn’t have to walk on the sidewalks. What I noticed was a little bit of a scarcity in Sani-Pots, for the amount of people who were down there. But I’m still not complaining.”

“I’d like to remind everyone who travels Route 11 through Marlowe, W.Va., that they need to look for flashing lights at Marlowe Elementary School. The speed limit while lights are flashing is 15 mph. Some people are doing 40 to 50 mph. Let’s get speed cameras to keep the children safe before it’s too late.”

“We discovered that we had not gotten our renewal for our tags the hard way. We were ticketed at the White Marsh Mall, Aug. 1, 12 hours after expiration. Our fine was $52. We would be interested to know who was at fault, either MVA or the post office. We also had a check to Discover get lost in the mail the same month. With our luck, we won’t be playing the lottery.”

“Congress shouldn’t be criticized. Congress has sent jobs bills, asking to drill in U.S., a budget. Congressional Democrats worked with Republicans on jobs bills, eliminating many programs that aren’t working. The Democrat-run Senate has voted against every bill Congress asked for to create jobs, etc. Congress has a website, so Americans can find out what the Senate voted against.”

“I was almost convinced that pit bulls are the result of their upbringing. Because of a recent tragedy at the jaws of a pit, my opinion is forever reversed. It is beyond my understanding that the city of Hagerstown is spending effort to assign responsibility thus liability for inevitable damages by pits, instead of taking preventative measures. I am in the hopes that Washington County will follow Prince George’s County in this respect.”

“The proposed senior center needs to be more centrally located than where it is being proposed. The proposed downtown stadium site would be ideal for convenience for the majority of our seniors. The new stadium site would then be moved to out along the interstate, which would also be ideal for convenience, as far as traffic goes, and would give the owner of the Suns a place to expand his sports complex. Why our politicians can’t see the obvious is a mystery to me.”
— Hagerstown
“As an unaffected observer watching the controversy over the downtown location for the ball stadium, I just can’t wait to see if the voters vote the mayor and council members out when they are up for re-election. It looks to me like a vocal minority doesn’t want the stadium downtown, and most Hagerstown residents could care less, as usual.”

“Now I see we are going to send the military to Jordan because of the problems in Syria. Nothing changes, does it? We back out of Iraq and Afghanistan but we continue to add to the military in the Middle East. I talked to a person who helped move out of Iraq, and guess where the equipment and many troops went? Equipment and many troops went to Kuwait. Where else would they go, home? Maybe we should try bombing Vietnam again.”

“If you are frustrated, angry, and fed up with the actions of our local politicians, and their backroom deals with the powerful who really control Washington County, then Spence Perry’s Oct. 10 guest editorial is a must-read. Thank you, Mr. Perry, for putting into words the thoughts and feelings of many Washington County residents.”

“Stink bugs: I get a sandwich-sized Ziploc bag, punch about 10 holes with a knife or scissors, and put in the Ziploc 10 to 12 mothballs, and seal it up. I place these bags near the bottom of the back of the refrigerator heat coils, the outside of the bottom of the hot water tank, and dryer, and in covered areas where the stink bugs gather, especially areas where we keep the plastic patio cushions over winter. Stick a small wire through the bag and hang it a little higher ... Give this about a week or two, and you will see a difference. If it works, how about a small donation to the food bank?”
