“I agree with Allen James, with this Fairplay mess. The president and chief need to be removed from the office. If not, things will not change. That’s too bad for the citizens of that area.”

“All summer, I’ve been seeing and hearing about the need for a new stadium in downtown Hagerstown, at a cost of $30 million. The dream was to collect about $5 million each from the city and the county, $10 million from the state, and maybe another $10 million from the Tooth Fairy. Now that the Tooth Fairy has promised $15 million, we are being told that we have a county and city commitment of about $10 million, can expect state funding of $10 million, and the Suns owners promising $6 million. That’s a total of $41 million. But wait. Even though we are now far beyond the original $30 million, we still don’t have enough. We now need $47 million to complete the project. Did I miss something? Had the $47 million cost been revealed at the beginning?”

“We were told that MSNBC has already projected President Obama the winner and the dead will not need to vote in this election. Could anyone tell me why all the dead vote Democrat?”

“It’s perplexing that there are those who don’t have a clue as to the election process in which they are a potential voter. A recent Williamsport caller to this column wants the county to return to the ward system for election of county commissioners. There has never been a ward system in the county, and hopefully there never will be. The caller is confusing Washington County with the city of Hagerstown, which for many years had a ward system that resulted in city council meetings that were often more of a circus sideshow than a rational administrative body with thoughtful discussion. Let’s not go there again. City voters were fed up with the political slugfests of contention and derision, and some years ago voted to replace ward politics with at-large elections. Elected officials should represent all segments of the jurisdiction they are elected to serve, and therefore should be elected at-large.”

“What is the projected cost overrun for the stadium, and who will pay for the upkeep and maintenance? If Bob’s re-elected, watch our taxes go up.”

“Calling about the land that was purchased for the new elementary school behind the Walmart. They bought this land, and they didn’t even have anybody do an independent survey and appraisal on this land? Now we’re supposed to have this great transparency in this city. Now first we got the ball park, that’s one bad news ... now we have the land that sold for how much more than what they paid for a year before, and didn’t even get an appraisal for it? And the taxpayers are paying for it. They all need to be out of office.”

“This Mail Caller says about being a disgrace, un-American to vote for President Obama. What’s more un-American than voting for a man that you know, you seniors, you know what he’s going to do to Medicare to Social Security, you know it, and yet you’ll vote for this man because he has a ‘R’ beside his name. And what’s more un-American than that? You know he’s going to cut Social Security to the bare bone, and food stamps ... get rid of Social Security. You know that. It’s been said time and time, it’s been proven.”

“Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German theologian who went to his death in World War II, in his protest against Hitler’s policies regarding the Jews, says — and this is for all your readers, please— not to vote is to vote. Please ponder that one, and vote, and vote your conscience.”

“I can’t believe what I read in the news today: iPhones and iPads for Apple are made in China, plus parts assembled for Microsoft and Hewlett Packard. They had a brawl in one factory, which employs 79,000 people. Can you imagine what 79,000 jobs would do for the USA? Foxconn is one of China’s biggest employees, with some 1.2 million workers in factories. I hope we’re putting some type of tariff or huge tax ... coming into the USA, and that someone is questioning as to how much profit these companies are making. No wonder no jobs in the USA.”
