Thumbs up to the Fort Ritchie Community Center, which is allowing Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services personnel to have free access to the community center’s fitness area. It’s the center’s way of saying thanks to Smithsburg EMS, which has placed medical personnel on standby at events there since it opened in 2008.
Thumbs up to the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce, whose president, Brien Poffenberger, this week signed a statement of support for National Guard and Reserve troops. The statement, in part, assures citizens who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard or in other “Uniformed Services” that they will be re-employed in their civilian jobs after returning from duty.
Thumbs up to those who participated this week in the Jefferson County (W.Va.) and Franklin County (Pa.) fairs. Many hours of hard work went in to caring for the animals and making the projects that were on display as part of these annual events.
Thumbs down to three Delaware day care workers who allegedly videotaped a fight between 3-year-old boys in their care and encouraged the toddlers to pummel each other as they laughed about it. The women were charged Monday with assault and other offenses, and the license of their employer, Hands of Our Future day care center, was suspended the same day.
