Thumbs up to the hundreds of people who braved the frigid waters of the Potomac River and Lake Royer on New Year’s Day to take part in polar plunges that served as fundraisers for the Humane Society of Washington County and the Fort Ritchie Community Center. Many will benefit from these folks’ willingness to subject themselves to a few moments of discomfort for the good of others.
Thumbs up to Washington County Playhouse, for recognizing the efforts of longtime patron and supporter Don Spickler by naming the stage for him. Spickler, also a supporter of the Hagerstown Suns and community concerts at The Maryland Theatre, rallied season ticket holders to invite friends and family to the playhouse when it announced there might not be another season due to poor ticket sales.
