In one of the biggest days in Magic history, the Magic pulled two sign-and-trade deals to acquire <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT008533" title="Tracy McGrady" href="/topic/sports/basketball/tracy-mcgrady-PESPT008533.topic">Tracy McGrady</a> and <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT008435" title="Grant Hill" href="/topic/sports/basketball/grant-hill-PESPT008435.topic">Grant Hill</a>. The Magic sent a conditional draft pick to Toronto for McGrady, and they sent <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT007662" title="Ben Wallace" href="/topic/sports/basketball/ben-wallace-PESPT007662.topic">Ben Wallace</a> and <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT000271" title="Chucky Atkins" href="/topic/sports/basketball/chucky-atkins-PESPT000271.topic">Chucky Atkins</a> to Detroit for Grant Hill. To make room for McGrady and Hill, the magic renounced the rights to <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT004985" title="Ron Mercer" href="/topic/sports/ron-mercer-PESPT004985.topic">Ron Mercer</a>, <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT000603" title="Chauncey Billups" href="/topic/sports/basketball/chauncey-billups-PESPT000603.topic">Chauncey Billups</a> and <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT003638" title="Anthony Johnson" href="/topic/sports/basketball/anthony-johnson-PESPT003638.topic">Anthony Johnson</a>, among others.

To make room for McGrady and Hill, the magic renounced the rights to Ron Mercer, Chauncey Billups and Anthony Johnson, among others.
