Bertrand Shooting

Nine bullet holes mark the side of the car of Niles Patrolman Dave Schoff. Schoff encountered William T. Lockey near the Big Lots store, 1905 S. 11th St., on Friday, after he had turned off 13th Street. Schoff said he does not know how Lockey missed him with his double-buckshot that featured nine pellets. He also fired one bird shot that hit the front window. (South Bend Tribune/GENE KAISER)
