1987 -- Dan Goetz had three hits and Kevin Mentzer added two as the Aberdeen Smittys defeated Watertown 5-4 in the first round of the State A American Legion baseball tournament.
1992 -- Wally Steiner's two-out single in the sixth inning scored Roger Christianson with the only run of the game and Britton beat Crofton, Neb., 1-0 in the second round of the state amateur baseball tournament. Corey Fiedler pitched a five-hitter and struck out 11 batters for Britton.
1997 -- Curt Schilling scattered five hits over eight innings and struck out 10 in winning his 15th game of the season as the Philadelphia Phillies notched a 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros.
2002 -- Steve McNair threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Mason and the Titans added two more TDs in the first quarter off Oakland turnovers as Tennessee handed the Raiders a 24-14 exhibition football setback.
2007 -- Torii Hunter hit a tie-breaking single in the eighth inning and a grand slam home run in the ninth, and Scott Baker pitched 6 effective innings with seven strikeouts to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
2011 -- Jim Thome hit his 600th career home run an inning after he hit number 599 to help the Minnesota Twins to a 9-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Thome, whose first homer broke a 3-3 tie, became the eighth major leaguer to hit the milestone, connecting for a three-run shot in the seventh to give the Twins a 9-5 lead.
