1986 - Northern State's defense failed and Valley City State swept the Wolves 9-0 and 13-2 to win the NAIA District 12 softball championship.
1991 - The Nets' Derrick Coleman was named the National Basketball Association's Rookie of the Year.
1996 - Sarah Keller of Webster and Justin Docter of Britton won individual titles at the Aberdeen Roncalli Invitational golf meet at Lee Park. Clark won the team title on the girls' side and Britton edged Roncalli for the boys' crown.
2001 - Shaquille O'Neal scored 44 points, grabbed 21 rebounds and blocked seven shots to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 108-105 victory over the Sacramento Kings in the first game of their Western Conference semifinal playoff series.
2006 - Jake Hamik and Matt Walberg broke Northern State school records while competing at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls. Hamik eclipsed his own school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.44 seconds and Walberg broke a 22-year-old record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:54.58.
2010 - Robert Allenby and J.B. Holmes share the lead after the first round of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, each with scores of six-under par 66.
