HARTFORD - The Parker boys' golf team turned in the best score of the second day by eight strokes but fell one swing short of tying Garretson for the top spot.

Garretson, which was tied with Deuel after the first day, posted a 245 on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 495. Parker finished with 496 and Deuel took third with 498 at the State B Boys' Tournament at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.

Aberdeen Christian's lone representative, freshman Matt Rohrbach, shaved nine strokes off Monday's score. Rohrbach carded an 86 on Tuesday to finish with a 181 and a tie for 39th overall.

“He did better than the first day,” said Aberdeen Christian athletic director Shawn Yates. “It was a good learning experience for him. He was a little disappointed the first day, but he turned it around today (Tuesday). He's still young. He maybe got those state jitters on a new course that he's not familiar with. It was more of a finesse course. We're looking forward to next year with Matt.”

Garretson used a team effort with two golfers in the top 11. Derek Dillon carded a 156 for third and Dylan Carlson was 11th with a 168.

Medalist honors went to Cal Wiese of Howard with a 149 to top Arron Lickteig of Freeman by four strokes. Wiese turned in the lowest score on Monday with a 72 and followed that up with a 77. The low score of the second day was a 75 by Ryan Preheim of Parker who finished fourth overall.

Josh Sackmann of Lemmon was the top area golfer with a 171.
