Runner breaks record

Jeff Mettler set a new University of South Dakota record while winning the men’s 5,000-meter in 14:08.74 at the Frank Sevigne Nebraska Cornhusker Invitational in Lincoln over the weekend.

 The Eureka native ran the race in 14 minutes, 8.74 seconds, breaking the USD record of 14:18.37 set by Matt Hoyt in 2000. Mettler recorded the 10th-best time in Division I this season.

 Trevor Vidlak of Nebraska was second in 14:13.62, while Auburn teammates Griffin Jaworski (14:20.18) and Samuel Mueller (14:29.64) were third and fourth, respectively. Redfield native Jared Noyes of Sioux Falls was 20th in 15:39.98.
