Before I make my basketball predictions for upcoming boys’ and girls’ tournaments, here are some things I know:

More than 10,000 sports fans gathered in Aberdeen Saturday night to watch State B wrestling at Wachs Arena, Northern State basketball at the Aberdeen Civic Arena and Wings hockey at the Odde Ice Center. That doesn’t even count the many who took in the volleyball jamboree at Simmons Middle School during the day.

In case you missed it, Riley Reiff was in Aberdeen to watch his brother Brady win a state wrestling title for Parkston Saturday. Riley was a first-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft and played with the Detroit Lions last season.

Two area hall of famers, Aberdeen/Warner’s Leon Tobin and Mobridge’s Pat Morrison, were recognized Saturday night at the Aberdeen Civic Arena for their years of officiating games at that historic downtown arena.

State A wrestling champions, Dakota Valley seniors and twin brothers Taylor (220) and Tanner Lambert (285) each finished the wrestling season with 40-2 records.

Nebraska (13-14, 4-10 Big Ten) beat Iowa 64-60 Saturday. The Cornhuskers’ rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit, ended Iowa’s three-game win streak and put a dent in the Hawkeyes’ NCAA tournament hopes. First-year Nebraska coach and Doland native Tim Miles said it’s too early in his building process to call the win a watershed victory. ‘‘But it’s a good win,’’ he said.

What a thrilling few minutes for the Aberdeen Central wrestling program Saturday morning in Watertown when Golden Eagles teammates Griffin Hieb, Mitchell Johnson and John Frisco qualified for the state finals in back-to-back-to-back semifinal wins. Hieb went on to win the 138-pound title while Johnson (145) and Frisco (152) finished second.

The state indoor swim championships will be Friday-Sunday at the Aberdeen YMCA.
