Holden never got into a rhythm at either end of the floor. In 20 minutes, he shot 1-for-4 and had two rebounds.
Blake led Maryland with 10 rebounds, although he hurt the Terps elsewhere. He missed eight of 10 shots, committed six turnovers and could not keep up with Gardner defensively.
The bottom line is Arizona, despite losing four starters and returning only two players with measurable experience from last year's national championship runner-up, never backed down.
"We know how good their freshmen are. Walton, Gardner, those guys played in the championship game last year," Williams said. "[The Terps] have a lot of people in their ear, telling them how good they are. We should be a very mature team. We certainly played a lot harder than that down the stretch last year."
