Sophomore forward Chris Wilcox scored 11 of his 13 and grabbed all nine of his rebounds in the second half. Junior point guard Steve Blake finished with eight points and 13 assists, including 11 assists and one turnover in the second half.
Wilcox scored seven of Maryland's last 13 points, including a free throw that put Maryland in front 87-85 and a leaner over Songaila that gave the Terps a 89-87 lead with 25 seconds left. Howard then tied the score on a put-back, was fouled by Wilcox on the play, missed the ensuing foul shot, then grabbed his biggest rebound of the game and followed with his biggest mistake.
"I haven't seen that many guys cry in a locker room," Dawson said.
"It was a little close, but it's fun to be part of a team that knows how to win and how to finish games," Blake said. "A little luck can never hurt. But we put ourselves in position to get that help."
