Tournament week is in full swing and championship games have been set and in some cases, some tournaments have been decided. Catch all the action below.
BOYS
Dodge City Tournament
The Wichita North Redskins moved to 10-0 on the season with a 67-63 overtime win over Scott City. The Beavers are now 50-3 in its last 53 games. North’s Conner Frankamp went down in the second quarter with a head injury and was taken out of the game. North will play for the championship of the Dodge City Tournament of Champions.
Derby demolished Buhler 64-48 to advance to the fifth place game.
El Dorado Tournament
Host El Dorado picked up its second loss of the season in a 62-46 loss to Gardner-Edgerton. Kapaun was able to put Collegiate away in a 60-50 win. Kapaun’s Braden Hullings led all players with 21 points in the win. The Collegiate loss sets up an El Dorado against Collegiate third place game. Kapaun will play for the championship against the Blazers.
Wichita Trinity took care of business against Campus 62-55. Trinity’s Ryan Miller led all players with 23 points. Circle lost again, this time to Great Bend 43-32.
Halstead Tournament
Moundridge advanced to the championship game with a 53-40 win over Rose Hill. The Wildcats will meet the Indians of Andale after a 52-25 trounce of Garden Plain.
Hillsboro Tournament
Hillsboro ran the ball all over the floor in a 69-40 thrashing of Goodland. Republic County advanced to the finals with a 44-37 victory over Wamego.
McPherson Tournament
McPherson was able to send Wichita Heights to the third place game with a 59-50 win. The Bullpups will face Shawnee Mission East in the championship game. The Lancers took down Blue Valley West 48-36.
Manhattan showed Maize the door in a 49-39 victory. Lawrence Free State slipped past Hutchinson 42-40.
Salina Invitational Tournament
Concordia took seventh place with a 54-37 win over Smoky Valley. Salina South took home third place honors in a 74-61 win over Clay Center.
Spring Hill Tournament
Goddard Eisenhower won the Spring Hill Tournament by a three-pointer over KC Piper 66-63.
Sterling Tournament
Remington barely took seventh place as Caleb Tanner dropped 22 points for the Broncos in a 50-48 win over Hutch Trinity. Sterling scored 15 points in all but one quarter to take fifth place over Bluestem 52-49. Independent didn't turn in its regular scoring barrage, but still came away with third place honors as it beat Lyons 67-53. Independent's Trey Williams led all players with 21 points. Beloit won the whole thing in a 74-68 affair with Maize South.
Topeka West Tournament
Wichita East poured it on host Topeka West 100-57. Wichita Southeast came away with the victory as it beat Topeka 61-38. East and Southeast will meet in the fifth place game.
Topeka Highland Park advanced to the championship game as the Scots beat KC Washington 76-50. The Lions of Lawrence will play for the championship as it beat Olathe South 45-41.
Valley Center Tournament
Topeka Seaman didn't have much trouble with Junction City as Seaman's Colombo dropped 20 points in the 63-53 Vikings win. Valley Center ran into a bit of a train in the form of KC Turner as the host Hornets lost 47-39.
GIRLS
On the girls side, many of the smaller schools are hitting the hardwood, about to wrap up their midseason tournament runs, while there was a shakeup at the top of 6A.
Non-League
All 6A eyes were on the bout between No. 6 Olathe Northwest and top-ranked Maize. The Ravens sent the No. 1 team in the state home reeling after beating the Eagles 62-48.
Golden Plains beat Palco 65-50, with a 17-point game from Hailee Spresser. Angela Ritter and Kylie Jones scored 15 points each for the Bulldogs. Palco was led by Kiely Marcotte’s 15 points with Kali Newell adding 13 and Fallyn Handley getting 10.
Heart of the Plains
Norwich ran away from Hutchinson Central Christian with the Eagles winning 53-23.
Burlington Tournament
Santa Fe Trail advances to the championship game of the Burlington Tournament with a 58-26 rout of Pittsburg. Hooly Ullery led the way for the Chargers with 18 points and Shelby Dahl chipped in 15.
After the win, Santa Fe Trail will meet the host Burlington in the championship game, after the Wildcats held off Sabetha 43-38. Breanna Bluma led Burlington with 10 points. Alexis McAfee led the Bluejays with 16 points, and Ashley Annan added 10.
Pittsburg and Sabetha will meet in the third place game.
On the consolation side of the bracket, Labette County handled Rossville 54-31 to make it into the fifth place game. The Grizzlies will play Paola after the Panthers beat Iola 52-29. Emilee Johnson led Paola with 16 points. Hannah Endicott led Iola with 11 points.
Iola will get Rossville in the seventh place game.
Hillsboro Tournament
In Hillsboro, the host is already in the championship, and awaits Wamego tomorrow after the Red Raiders beat Republic county 54-39 in the semifinals. Republic County will meet Hesston in the third place game.
Riley County picked up a convincing 41-24 win over Goodland on the consolation side, earning a game with Holcomb for fifth place. Goodland will face Thomas More Prep for seventh place.
Mid-Continent League Tournament
Smith Center moves on to the championship game of the MCL Tournament with a 41-36 win over Norton Community. The Lady Red will square off with Ellis for the title after the Railers beat Osborne 63-40.
Norton and Osborne will play for third place, while Plainville and Hill City meet for fifth. Phillipsburg and Stocton will get each other in the seventh place game.
Royal Valley Tournament
Wabaunsee picked up a win in the Royal Valley Tournament, beating Royal Valley 43-31. Cara Flach had a huge game for the Chargers with 21 points.
Chapman came out on top of a thriller, nipping Pleasant Ridge 58-56. Lindsey Hurford had a monster night, and the Fighting Irish needed every one of her 20 points. Milea Anderson had 11 points for Chapman and Macey Langvardt had 10. Ashten Langley had 16 points for Pleasant Ridge with Beth Doty scoring 12 points and Kelsey Carpenter getting 10.
Salina Invitational Tournament
Andover picked up a third place finish with a 62-37 win over Abilene. The future of the tournament was in full form, with sophomore Kaley Halmark from Andover setting a tournament record for points in a game with 28 against Abilene. Abilene freshman Belle Barbieri tied the tournament scoring record with 54 points in three games.
Sacred Heart finishes the tournament with a win in the seventh place game, beating Smoky Valley 35-31.
AVCTL Div. I rivals Salina South and Salina Central will face off for the championship, while Concordia and Clay Center will play for fifth.
